Italian fullback Matteo Darmian made a big contribution in the Italian Serie A title race for Inter Milan after he scored the winning goalin a tight game at home to Cagliari in what was the penultimate league game for the Nerazzuri in the Italian top flight.

Darmian was on from start but didn’t finish that Cagliari game. The Italian international was subbed off with six minutes left on the clock with compatriot Daniele D’Ambrosio coming on in his place.
Darmian is a versatile defender that can play as a fullback or as centre back. He uses both his left and right foot thus giving him advantage as a fullback. The former Red Devil can play effectively as a right-back or as a left-back.
His lone goal against Cagliari took Inter Milan 11 points clear at the top of the table but that advantage has since been cut to nine points by city rivals AC Milan after the last set of games at the weekend. Inter were unable to continue their winning run when they went to face Napoli in Naples and that gave Milan the opportunity to close the gap by two points.
Inter were involved in a 1-1 draw at Napoli. The Nerazzuri had to even come from behind to earn a point after going behind in the first half when goalkeeper Samir Handanovic put through his own net with nine minutes left before the interval. Christian Eriksen then scored for Inter in the second half to secure a point. On their part, Milan beat Genoa 2-1 at home in their own game. The win over Genoa ensured that the Rossoneri close the gap on Inter Milan.
