The deal for Inter Milan’s Ivan Perisicwas believed to have broken down due to the slow speed of the transaction.
However, there are reports that United are still hoping to wrap up the deal as soon as possible.
The Red Devils are desperate for Perisic to join and feed RomeluLukaku the ball after the Belgian’s deal was completed. Jose Mourinho is keen on the Inter star joining that he has offered to give out MatteoDarmian as an extra.
The Italy international played in right back role before becoming the regular in the left back role. He was rattled earlier in the season but he managed to find some form towards the end of the term in the left back capacity.
Mourinho badly wants the 28-year old Croatian to move to the Old Trafford as he gears up for a new season. Perisic is versatile and Mourinho want him in the team for depth.
Inter also need to the funds to balance their accounts. They have offered Perisic a new deal with more money but with an increased buy-out clause. The player reportedly rejected the £68,000 weekly wages in the deal, preferring the option of Man United’s Champions League football and more money as he ages.
With the pace of things, it is unlikely that the deal would be completed before the Red Devils fly out for their pre-season tour in the United States. It is more likely that the 27-year old Darmian would exit the club this summer after Louis van Gaal brought him in 2015. The recently married Italian might not reject a move back home where he was thought impressive.
